2 Convicted And Repeat Armed And Dangerous Felons Arrested From Citizen Involvement And On Going Narcotics Investigation


           Sixth District Narcotics Task Force Units and S.O.D. arrested two Convicted Felons who are brothers, 37-year-old Paul Bailey, and 33-year-old Herman Bailey.  35-year-old Tricia Johnson was also arrested in the incident.  All 3 were booked for Narcotics and Weapons Violations as a result of citizen information and an on-going Narcotics investigation.


         Superintendent Serpas said, “This is an excellent example of how citizen involvement can assist our officers in apprehending armed and dangerous suspects.  With our citizen’s tips and information, we can continue to arrest repeat and armed and dangerous offenders.”       

On Thursday, January 27, 2011, Detectives from the Sixth District Narcotic Task Force Unit executed a Search Warrant at 2728 Cleveland. The Search Warrant stemmed from an ongoing narcotic investigation in the Sixth District. The Detectives executed the Search Warrant with the assistance of S.O.D. after Detectives received information that the subjects possibly had weapons in the residence.  Once the house was secured, the Detectives located three handguns, a S.W.D. 9 mm Mack 11, a Hi-Point 45 caliber pistol and a Sky Industries 9 mm pistol. The Detectives also seized $1,310.00 in U.S. currency and 16 grams of Crack Cocaine.
Paul Bailey had prior arrests for Murder in 1987, Aggravated Assault in 1989, Attempted Murder in 1990, Attempted Murder in 1991, Murder in 1998 and Aggravated Battery in 1999 and had a conviction for Carrying a Concealed Weapon in 1994.  He was booked in this incident for Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.  
Herman Bailey had two Crack Cocaine convictions in 1994 and had prior arrests for Crack Distribution, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Domestic Violence, Trespassing, Filing a False Police Report and Traffic.  He was booked in this incident with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
Tricia Johnson had prior arrests for Resisting Arrest, Dog Fighting, Battery, Theft and Trespassing.  She was booked in this incident with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine and a Traffic Attachment.

Stabbing on Bourban Street New Orleans

 Convicted Felon And Repeat Offender Keith Martin Arrested Minutes After The Stabbing of A Restaurant Manager


Eighth District Detectives arrested 48-year-old Keith Martin of New Orleans, and booked him with aggravated battery by cutting on a 46-year-old male local restaurant manager.  The offence occurred in the 100 block of Bourbon Street at approximately 9:10 P.M.



Martin entered the restaurant and caused a disturbance.  The manager asked Martin to leave.  As the manager assisted Martin who was in a wheelchair leaving, he produced a knife and cut the victim to the chin.  The victim called police and a description of the suspect was broadcasted.  Minutes later the suspects was apprehended at Iberville and Bourbon Streets.
The victim was treated by Emergency Medical Paramedics on scene for a cut to the chin.    
  
Keith Martin was currently wanted for Probation Violation and had prior arrests for Attempted First and Second Degree Murder, Possession of Crack, many Battery on Police Officers, many Resisting Officers, Battery, Lewd Conduct, Aggravated Assault, Simple Burglaries, Attempted burglary, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Aggravated Arsons which he pled guilty to, many Trespassing and Disturbing the Peace, Begging, Criminal Damage to Property, Obstructing a Public Place, Theft, and Possession of Stolen Property.

Purse Snatching Near Universities Uptown

On January 17, 2011 at approximately 3:25 pm the victim was walking in the 1900 block of Robert Street when she was approached by an unknown black male who asked to use her cell phone. The unknown black male grabbed the victims purse and fled making good his escape.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7”, 150 pounds, dark complexion, clean shaven, short black hair wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt and navy blue pants.

Aggravated Battery Uptown on Oak Street

On January 22, 2011 at approximately 5:15 pm the victim was walking at the intersection of Fern and Oak streets. At that time he was approached by an unknown black male who asked him for money. The victim advised him that he did not have any money and walked off. The suspect struck the victim in the back of his head with a bottle and a fight ensued. The suspect fled making good his escape.

On January 24, 2011 detectives developed a suspect and a photo line-up was shown to the victim. The victim positively identified Barry Williams, black male,        9-07-1967 as the perpetrator. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Detectives Seek Gunman in Robbery of a Walgreen’s Store

Surveillance video shows the gunman who robbed the cashier on January 22, 2011, at approximately 9:13 A.M., inside of Walgreen’s located at
5501 Crowder Boulevard
.

In Saturday’s robbery, the suspect walked up to the counter and placed an item on the counter.  As the cashier scanned the item, the suspect leaned towards the cashier implying he had a weapon and demanded money.  After the cashier complied, the suspect fled in a tan colored Escalade vehicle license plate unknown.       

The suspect was described as Caucasian male approximately 5’7” tall, unshaven, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.

Any person who, after the commission of a felony, shall harbor, conceal, or aid the offender, knowing or having reasonable ground to believe that he has committed the felony, and with the intent that he may avoid or escape from arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment shall be charged with R.S. 14:25; Relative to Accessories After the Fact. 
An accessory after the fact may be tried and punished, notwithstanding the fact that the principal felon may not have been arrested, tried, convicted, or amenable to justice.

Aggravated Battery by Shooting

On Saturday, January 22, 2011 at approximately 7:41p.m. First District Oficers responded to a call regarding a shooting. Upon arrival the officers observed the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left shoulder. 
The victim stated he was attempting to buy marijuana when he was shot by an aquaintance from school. The victim provided the name "Darrien" as the perpetrator. The victim stated he and the perpetrator attend Delgado Community College. The victim again stated he purchased marijuana from Darrien and after the transaction the Darrien pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband. Upon seeing the handgun the victim, who was inside his vehicle, sped away. As the victim was fleeing he heard two gunshots and felt a burning sensation in his shoulder. The perpetrator was was wearing a black short sleeved shirt and black pants.  
After further investigation it was learned the victim stated he actually sells marijuana and Darrien called him to set up a meeting in order to buy a bag of marijuana. Darrien advised the victim to meet him in the 500 block of South Rocheblave Street. The victim arrived at the location, seated inside of his vehicle, Darrien and an unknown black, possibly female subject approached his vehicle. The victim stated Darrien stood next to the driver's side window, and pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his front waistband area. The victim fled the location in his vehicle, (eastbound) down South Rocheblave Street. Upon attempting to flee, the victim heard what he believed to be two gunshots and felt a burning sensation in his rear left shoulder.
The victim's condition was listed as good and was expected to be treated and released from the hospital.
The detective learned the perpetrator resided in St. Bernard Parish. Deputies were sent to the location and it was learned Darrien Delatte resided at the location. The deputy was advised Darrien was at his girlfriend's residence located in the 
Detectives relocated to the 2500 block of Gravier Street where Darrien Delatte was located. Delatte was arrested for the shooting.

New Orleans –The victim who was fatally shot has been identified as 19-year-old Errol Meeks.  The offense occurred shortly after 11:00 P.M., in the 5100 block of
Freret Street
.



According to investigators, Second District officers received a call of a “shooting” and upon their arrival; the officers located Meeks lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.  Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead.


Currently, investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) involved in this offense, as well as a motive.  Detective Robert Hurst is in charge of the investigation.


Errol Meeks has prior arrests for illegal possession of marijuana (2009), and a curfew violation.

Homicide Investigation in New Orleans

NOPD Homicide Division Investigating Shooting Deaths on Petit Bayou Lane
New Orleans, LA – Members of the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Division are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 31-year-old local female and a 35-year-old local male.  The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.  The offense occurred shortly after 12:00 A.M., at 22 Petit Bayou Lane.
           According to investigators, Seventh District officers responded to a call of a "shooting" and upon their arrival, the officers located the victims inside their residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies.  Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced both victims dead.
          The preliminary investigation indicates that this murder may have been drug related due to the fact there were narcotics found inside of the residence.The 31-year-old female has prior arrests for illegal possession of crack cocaine, a court capias, and prior to her death was currently wanted in South Carolina for illegal possession of marijuana.

Shooting in New Orleans

        On Thursday January 13, 2011, at or about 7:00 p.m., Detective Nicholas Williams manning unit 1526, had the occasion to investigate a signal 34S relative to aggravated battery (shooting), in the 2000 block of Benton Street.
       Upon arrival Detective Williams spoke to the owner of the residence at which time she stated that as she was sitting at her kitchen table talking to her brother she heard multiple gunshots and observed smoke filling the interior of the residence. After the smoke cleared she observed the victim laying in the hall way of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. Detective Lawrence Jones assisted Detective Williams and  relocated to a local hospital and later learned that the victim was presently in stable condition and was being prepped for surgery. 
Wanted: Unknown Fifth District Detectives are actively investigating this case.

Criminal Arrests in New Orleans

NOPD’S Special Operations Division Task Force Unit Booked 18 Suspects Last week

  

New Orleans- In one week’s time the Special Operations Division (S.O.D) Task Force Unit investigated 103 complaints, yielding 18 arrests for 11 Felonies, 10 Misdemeanors and 3 Municipal violations.  Officers conducted 39 vehicle stops and made two Traffic arrests. The unit made three Narcotic cases conducted 15 wanted checks and 93 pedestrian contacts. They wrote 18 reports, and confiscated 259.27 grams of Marijuana.

Officers Nathaniel Joseph and Charles stamp conducted a traffic stop at
Washington Avenue and South Lopez Street and observed a plastic bag containing Marijuana partially concealed between the driver’s seat and the center console.  The driver, identified as 37-year-old Antonio Verrett, was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Marijuana.  Verrett had prior arrest for Possession of Marijuana, Traffic arrests, Concealed weapon and pled guilty to Illegal use of a Firearm.

Drug Bust in New Orleans'

Narcotics and Task Force Officers Worked the Streets of New Orleans Last Week and Confiscated Narcotics and Firearms



First District Narcotics and Task Force Units hit the streets last week and made 25 cases for several incidents involving Felony, Misdemeanor and Municipal violations in various areas in the First District and confiscated narcotics including 159 Hydrocodone and 118 Soma pills and seized $1,921.00 in cash.           

Second District Narcotics and Task Force Units made arrests for Felony and Misdemeanor violations and confiscated Narcotics from various areas in their district.   

Third District Narcotics and Task Force Units arrested six persons for one felony, three Misdemeanors and two municipal violations.  They conducted wanted checks and made one Narcotics case and confiscated Methamphetamine and Marijuana.     


Fourth District Narcotics and Task Force Units booked 33 persons and made 43 cases for various Felony, Misdemeanor and Municipal violations.  In the Algiers area they confiscated three guns, 34.52 grams of Marijuana, a Crack Pipe and seized $1,302.00 in cash.          

                                                                                                                                                                                     
Fifth District Narcotics and Task Force Units made 21 cases for mostly Misdemeanor violations.  They made three Narcotics cases and confiscated Marijuana and Crack Cocaine.    
               

Sixth District Narcotics and Task Force Units investigated mostly Felony cases and arrested 15 persons.  In the seven Narcotics cases they made, they confiscated 9.40 grams of Heroin, 9.45 grams of Crack Cocaine, 2.45 grams of Marijuana and 1.58 grams of Crack.  


Seventh District Narcotics and Task Force Units booked 14 persons for Felony, Misdemeanors and Municipal violations.  They conducted a search warrant and wanted check and confiscated two guns and Marijuana.  They picked up one truant and five curfew violators.    Officers were conducting a suspicious person’s check, when one the subjects attempted to avoid Officer Davis.  Officer Davis approached the subject who became combative. Officer Davis managed to place the subject on the ground.  The subject managed to retrieve a small handgun and aim it at Officer Davis.  Officer Davis disarmed the subject. The subject was arrested for Aggravated Assault Illegal Carrying of a Firearm and Resisting.

Stabbing in New Orleans


On January 6, 2011 at approximately 12:20pm officers responded to an aggravated battery by cutting in the 1600 Block of North Villere.
Upon arrival detectives met with the victim, who was standing, and alert, but complaining of pain on the left side of her face, where she stated she was stabbed. EMS arrived and treated the victim on scene as she refused hospitalization.
Detectives observed a wound to the front of the victims left ear consistent with that of a stab wound caused by a small pocket knife.
The victim stated she was getting clothes together for her husband who was hospitalized. Shortly after 12:15pm , her sister-in-law, Rose Richardson B/F 4/11/53 arrived in the block accompanied by her nephew. Rose knocked on the victim's door asking for the clothes. The victim advised the clothes were not ready at which time she became irate. Attempting to avoid confrontation, the victim closed her front door and remained inside.
While inside, she heard a crash and went to the front where she noticed that her window AC unit had been pushed inward. The victim heard a crash as her front door was kicked in and Ms. Richardson entered the house, still arguing loudly. The argument progressed into the second room of the residence where Ms. Richardson produced what the victim described as a rusty pocket knife. Ms. Richardson stabbed the victim in the face with the knife. Rose Richardson fled the scene and the police were notified.
 The victim stated there has been hostility between herself and the perpetrator, and stated that her boyfriend's family has never liked her. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Rose Richardson, charging her with aggravated battery and criminal damage.

Shooting in New Orleans


            On Friday, January 7, 2011 at approximately 12:11 a.m., First Dstrict officers responded to a call of gunshots in the area of Palmyra Street and South Gayoso Streets. 
Upon arrival, it was learned the victim had been transported to a local hospital by means of private conveyance. Detectives observed  .40 caliber spent casings in the 200 block of South Gayoso Street.
Detectives relocated to the hospital where it was learned from the victim, he was leaving his friends house in the  200 Block of South Gayoso Street.
           The victim who was located on a bicycle, claimed he saw an unknown black male running lake bound on Palmyra Street. The victim stated the two made eye contact at which point the subject turned and began running toward him while brandishing a black semi-automatic hangun. The victim traveled down Gayoso Street in an attempt to evade the unknown black male subject, when he heard three or four gun shots.
The victim stated he felt a burning sensation in his left buttock area and realized he been shot.
         The perpetrator is  described as being young, approximately 16-18 years of age, with a dark complexion, a low haircut, wearing blue jeans and an unknown colored short sleeve t-shirt.

Simple Robbery in New Orleans

          On January 8, 2011, at about 4:43 pm, officers were dispatched to a Simple Battery at Gov. Nicholls & Marais Street. Upon arrival, it was learned from the victim at approximatley 4:30 pm, he left the laundromat on Marais St to walk back to his residence on Esplanade Avenue. As he neared the intersection of Gov. Nicholls & Marais Street, he was approached by two black males on  bicycles. The victim, who is very short,(possible midget) was hit in the chest with one of the bicycles, knocking him to the ground.
The two subjects jumped off their bicycles and told the victim they were going to rob him and take his wallet. One of the subjects punched the victim in his upper body and grabbed at his rear pocket, where his wallet was kept. The victim managed to roll away from the subjects as they circled him, grabbing and pushing him around. The victim grabbed one of the  perpetrator's bicycle and toss it at them, allowing him to run away.
The victim ran up Marais Street while the two perpetrators fled down Gov. Nicholls towards North Claiborne.
      The victim stated he recognized the two perpetrators from the  area of 1400 North Claiborne where they would often harass and throw rocks at him. Officers canvassing the area for the described perpetrators  located a possible suspect outside of 1448 North Claiborne. Through further investsigation both juvenile subjects were located. The victim identified both juveniles via a show up identification.

New Drug Arrest in New Orleans

The First District Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 2031 Saint Philip Street, Apt. 3. Gary Peters, B/M, 3/1/1952, and Carol Rarlieff, B/F, 7/5/1959, were arrested and charged as follows:
  1. Possession with the Intent to Distribute crack cocaine, 187 rocks, two ounces
  2. Possession with the Intent to Distribute  159 hydrococone
  3. Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Legend Drug without a prescription, 118 Soma
  4. Prohibitive Acts Tampering with Prescription Bottles
  5. Possession of Paraphernalia
  6. Relative to Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance  within 1000 feet of a school.
  7.  $1,599.00 was seized and turned over to asset forfeiture.
 Gary Peters was additionally charged with Obstruction of Justice by Tampering with Evidence.

2 Suspected Criminals Wanted for Murder in New Orleans

Rico Newman Wanted for Two Separate Incidents, Second Degree Murder and Attempted Murder / Aggravated Assault



Homicide Detectives obtained a Second Degree Murder Arrest Warrant for 18-year-old Rico Newman for the shooting death of Keith Berry who was found shot multiple times in the doorway of a home in the 1800 block of Saint Thomas Street.  The incident occurred January 2, 2011 at approximately 12:00 A.M.   

The victim was near the doorway of the home when Newman and other unknown suspects opened fire fatally wounding Berry.  Detectives believe the victim’s murder was mistaken identity and are in the process of identifying the other suspects involved in the incident.
Newman is also wanted for an Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault that occurred November 23, 2010 in the 1800 block of Arts Street..  Newman has prior arrest for Aggravated Burglary, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Illegal Carrying of a Firearm, Concealed Weapons, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting an Officer, Unauthorized use of a Moveable, Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Trespassing.

Any person who, after the commission of a felony, shall harbor, conceal, or aid the offender, knowing or having reasonable ground to believe that he has committed the felony, and with the intent that he may avoid or escape from arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment shall be charged with R.S. 14:25; Relative to Accessories After the Fact.


An accessory after the fact may be tried and punished, notwithstanding the fact that the principal felon may not have been arrested, tried, convicted, or amenable to justice.  

Whoever becomes an accessory after the fact shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than five years, or both; provided that in no case shall his punishment be greater than one-half of the maximum provided by law for a principal offender.

The Crime Doesn't Stop in New Orleans

On Thursday, January 7, 2011 at or about 8:10 p.m., Detective Nicholas Williams manning unit 1526, had the occasion to investigate a signal 34S, relative to Aggravated Battery (shooting), in the 1400 block of Lesseps Street.

Upon arriving on the scene at or about 8:30 p.m., Detective Williams was informed, that a unknown black male was found in the alleyway in the 1400 block of

suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and an unknown black female was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside of a blue GMC van at the intersection of
Lesseps Street
and
North Villere Street
. Both victims were transported to

A local hospital via New Orleans EMS unit.

Detective Williams relocated to University Hospital attempted to interview the unknown victims but were met with negative results. Both victims were in surgery.

Murder Arrest - New Orleans, Louisiana

Homicide Detectives this morning arrested a 16-year-old male for Second Degree Murder and Attempted Second Degree Murder for the June 6, 2010 fatal shooting of Shannon Joshua inside of a home at 1819 Numa Street in Algiers.

The juvenile was arrested at 8341 Belfast Street in New Orleans without incident.  The arrested juvenile and his family members were uncooperative with detectives.  He was transported to the Juvenile Division.  Homicide Detective Kevin Burns learned the victim and the suspect were acquaintances and for reasons unknown, the suspect fatally shot the victim.
