Aggravated Battery by Shooting

On Saturday, January 22, 2011 at approximately 7:41p.m. First District Oficers responded to a call regarding a shooting. Upon arrival the officers observed the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left shoulder. 

The victim stated he was attempting to buy marijuana when he was shot by an aquaintance from school. The victim provided the name "Darrien" as the perpetrator. The victim stated he and the perpetrator attend Delgado Community College. The victim again stated he purchased marijuana from Darrien and after the transaction the Darrien pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband. Upon seeing the handgun the victim, who was inside his vehicle, sped away. As the victim was fleeing he heard two gunshots and felt a burning sensation in his shoulder. The perpetrator was was wearing a black short sleeved shirt and black pants.  

After further investigation it was learned the victim stated he actually sells marijuana and Darrien called him to set up a meeting in order to buy a bag of marijuana. Darrien advised the victim to meet him in the 500 block of South Rocheblave Street. The victim arrived at the location, seated inside of his vehicle, Darrien and an unknown black, possibly female subject approached his vehicle. The victim stated Darrien stood next to the driver's side window, and pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his front waistband area. The victim fled the location in his vehicle, (eastbound) down South Rocheblave Street. Upon attempting to flee, the victim heard what he believed to be two gunshots and felt a burning sensation in his rear left shoulder.

The victim's condition was listed as good and was expected to be treated and released from the hospital.

The detective learned the perpetrator resided in St. Bernard Parish. Deputies were sent to the location and it was learned Darrien Delatte resided at the location. The deputy was advised Darrien was at his girlfriend's residence located in the 

Detectives relocated to the 2500 block of Gravier Street where Darrien Delatte was located. Delatte was arrested for the shooting.
